February Update
Greetings:
A lot has been going on since my last update. I apologize for not writing more frequently. We have teamed up with some great organizations in Charleston to get the word out about YoungLives. It has been great meeting with other local organizations and social services to learn how and where to direct the girls when they need something we can't offer them. Today I had a meeting with Right From the Start. They offer wonderful services to pregnant girls and really educate them in prenatal care. They are excited to pass along information to the girls and also are willing to meet and talk with the girls about the services they offer. It is going to be an exciting partnership.
This Saturday, the 13th, we are heading up to the YMCA for our first club (outside of school). From 4-6pm we will be in the kids gym meeting girls and getting to know them and their children. I'm excited to offer a great bonding time for these girls and their children as well as great conversation time for us to get to know them better. We are still looking for a place to have monthly club meetings at a local community center or building that already has a daycare or nursery. Please pray that God would find us a great place to have monthly club meetings.
Our time at Capital continues to go well. We have gotten to know the girls over the past 5 months so much better and it has been very exciting watching them and their babies change over that time period. We've gotten to see babies starting to crawl, sit up, and become more mobile as well as a few starting to become much more vocal and their vocabulary increase. Last week I was there at just the right time and got to encourage and reassure a girl who was thinking about quitting school that she was smart enough and capable of hanging in there. It gets overwhelming for these girls between homework, work, and their kids that sometimes the only option they can think of is to drop out. I loved telling her that she is capable of finishing and told her anytime she ever doubted that she could call me and I would remind her, she is smart and can do it!!!!!!!
Thank you for your support, prayers, and encouragement. Please be praying for our time with the girls this weekend. Please pray that girls would feel comfortable and excited to come to the YMCA to play and hang out not only with each other but with us. As we begin to develop deeper relationships with them, pray that God will soften their hearts and begin to stir their souls for a love that is truly unconditional.
In Him,
Adrienne
