12:10-12:50
Emmanuel Baptist Church Room 201

YoungLives Mentor training April 13th from 12:10-12:50 (bring your own lunch if you'd like to eat during this time) @ Emmanuel Baptist on the corner of Washington and Florida street down on the West Side. We will meet in Room 201 upstairs of the new building.

We will go over the expectations of mentoring and get started on training so that we can hit the ground running when school starts next year. This is an introduction to the actual training which will begin in May. We'd love for you to come out and hear what mentoring is all about, the time requirements, and expectations.

You may begin arriving at 11:45 but we will start at 12:10 and finish no later than 12:50 so that you may get back to work.

*You can go through mentor training and then decide not to mentor. By coming to the training you are not committing to being a mentor.*
Hope to see you there

Please join us for an afternoon with Kanawha Valley YoungLives!

Join us for 'High Tea' on Saturday April 10th at 3:00pm at the BeauTEAfull Tea Room in South Charleston to learn more about what YoungLives is doing in the Kanawha Valley to reach pregnant and parenting teen mom's. We are off to a great start and hope to continue bringing women along on our journey to change the lives of girls and their children living in our communities forever.
During the Tea, we will be holding a silent auction to help raise money to send local girls
to YoungLives camp which will be held later this summer.
Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased individually or by table. This is a great way to bring together your girlfriends, learn about some amazing things going on in your community and support YoungLives.

For more information or to purchase tickets contact Adrienne Sommerville.

February Update

Greetings:

A lot has been going on since my last update. I apologize for not writing more frequently. We have teamed up with some great organizations in Charleston to get the word out about YoungLives. It has been great meeting with other local organizations and social services to learn how and where to direct the girls when they need something we can't offer them. Today I had a meeting with Right From the Start. They offer wonderful services to pregnant girls and really educate them in prenatal care. They are excited to pass along information to the girls and also are willing to meet and talk with the girls about the services they offer. It is going to be an exciting partnership.

This Saturday, the 13th, we are heading up to the YMCA for our first club (outside of school). From 4-6pm we will be in the kids gym meeting girls and getting to know them and their children. I'm excited to offer a great bonding time for these girls and their children as well as great conversation time for us to get to know them better. We are still looking for a place to have monthly club meetings at a local community center or building that already has a daycare or nursery. Please pray that God would find us a great place to have monthly club meetings.

Our time at Capital continues to go well. We have gotten to know the girls over the past 5 months so much better and it has been very exciting watching them and their babies change over that time period. We've gotten to see babies starting to crawl, sit up, and become more mobile as well as a few starting to become much more vocal and their vocabulary increase. Last week I was there at just the right time and got to encourage and reassure a girl who was thinking about quitting school that she was smart enough and capable of hanging in there. It gets overwhelming for these girls between homework, work, and their kids that sometimes the only option they can think of is to drop out. I loved telling her that she is capable of finishing and told her anytime she ever doubted that she could call me and I would remind her, she is smart and can do it!!!!!!!

Thank you for your support, prayers, and encouragement. Please be praying for our time with the girls this weekend. Please pray that girls would feel comfortable and excited to come to the YMCA to play and hang out not only with each other but with us. As we begin to develop deeper relationships with them, pray that God will soften their hearts and begin to stir their souls for a love that is truly unconditional.

In Him,

Adrienne
